The Wells Of Salvation. (6)

Genesis 29:2 And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well's mouth.

We have come to the last in this short series of messages focused on the 'wells of Salvation'. This time we are going to look at the perseverance of the redeemed of God. What this 'perseverance' means, is that the born again believer can never be lost, we can never loose God's so great Salvation.

John 10:28 and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Genesis chapter 29 provides a very practical illustration of the perseverance of the saints of God. First of all the well here in this passage speaks of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The stone being rolled away allows the blessings of God to flow forth in redemptive power. The resurrection of Christ causes the waters of life to refresh, sustain, preserve, and encourage the bride of Christ to persevere to the end.

The well in Scripture, as we have already noted, in the meeting place, this is where Jacob met his first love, Rachel. The 'wells of Salvation ' is where the born again believer meets their first love (Christ) the fairest of ten thousands to our souls.

Not only did Jacob (Israel) meet his first love at the well, but as the subsequent verses and passages reveal, Jacob persevered. He served faithfully year by year without objection or wavering to be with his first love Rachel. This is perseverance, based and preserved in mutual love.

And so the believer perseveres in the Christian life because of Christ's love for us and our love for our Saviour.

Romans 8:28-39 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. [29] For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. [30] Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. [31] What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? [32] He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? [33] Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. [34] Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. [35] Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? [36] As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. [37] Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. [38] For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, [39] nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

May richer, fuller be.

I yield my flick'ring torch to thee;

My heart restores its borrowed ray,

That in thy sunshine's blaze its day

I trace the rainbow thru' the rain

And feel the promise is not vain

That morn shall tearless be.

4. O cross that liftest up my head,

I dare not ask to fly from thee;

I lay in dust life's glory dead,

And from the ground there blossoms red

Life that shall endless be.
