The Book of Daniel.

Daniel 1:12, 14-15 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. [14] So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days. [15] And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.

Daniel's purpose of heart was to refuse the world's diet, he would be satisfied with God's provision. So he spoke to Melzar and asked that his diet, and that of his three friends would be different to that provided by the King.

Daniel refused a diet of dainties entangled with pagan practices and principles. He was content with 'pulse' (a vegetable broth) which he received with thanksgiving as from the LORD.

In all this, Daniel and his three friends, refused to fellowship with spiritual uncleanness and sought to honour God in all their ways. They did not covet the recepies of this world, rather they maintained that,

1 Timothy 6:6, 8 But godliness with contentment is great gain. [8] And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

These Hebrew students were so unlike Achan in Joshua's time,

Joshua 7:21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.

Achan coveted the Babylonish and Satanic 'lure' which brought utter destruction upon himself and his home. Daniel would not be bought with a 'mess of Babylonian pottage' his purpose of heart was to honour and obey God.

Remember what happened to Esau, he sold his birthright for his worldly appetite.

Genesis 25:34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

Daniel with his three friends proved to Melzar that God's sustenance was more nourishing than the Babylonian diet. (Dan1:15)

It's must be remembered that the 'Babylonish Diet' was established in the land of Shinar by Nimrod 'the mighty hunter.' This man established the rebellious kingdom of Babylon by building the tower of Babel. (Gen 10 - 11) Nimrod established a false religious and political system which appeared to lead to God but in reality leads to Hell Fire. The Babylonish system was built upon bloodshed, wickedness, political intrigue and evil. It is described thus in Revelation as,

Revelation 17:4-6 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: [5] and upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. [6] And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

The cry of Scripture has ever been,

Revelation 18:2, 4 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. [4] And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

Daniel would not partake of the Babylonish plagues, and God rewarded him. How will God reward your choice of Spiritual diet ???
