The Wells Of Salvation (5)
The Wells Of Salvation. (5)
Zechariah 13:1 In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.
Remember we likened the Covenant of God's mercy to an underground stream supplying the 'wells of Salvation'. Now we are looking at the fountain head of particular redemption. The old hymn asks the questions, 'what can wash away my sin'? what can make me whole again' ? The answer comes, 'nothing but the blood of Jesus'
1 John 1:7 but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Our text speaks of the blood Sacrifice offered by the Son of God on Calvary's Cross. The Scripture affirms,
Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Our text provides proof of particular redemption. The fountain is not opened up for everyone in the world, but it is opened for a particular people, 'the house of David', the number according to the election of grace.
The precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, atones for the sins of those 'chosen in Christ from before the foundation of the world,'
Not so says someone citing,
1 Timothy 2:3-4 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; [4] who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
Wait a minute, God will have all who are chosen in Christ to be saved. The 'wells of Salvation' bring forth the waters of 'Particular Redemption'.
Our text goes on to say that those who are redeemed by the precious blood of Christ will (sweep through the gates of the 'new Jerusalem ' washed in the blood of the Lamb.
Blessings in Christ. Rev Mervyn Cotton.
